BRIEF PERSONAL PROFILE OF
HON. ARTEMIO A. NIELO

At age 69, Hon. Artemio A. Nielo is hale and hearty. He is a physician by profession and is married to Dr. Filipinas Saguin Nielo, the present Chief of the Piņan District Hospital. He has five children and eight grandchildren.

Hon Nielo is now on his second term as a City Councilor. He retired as City Health Officer in March 24, 2000 at age sixty five. Before that he occupied several positions in the City of Dapitan such as Assistant CHO, Local Civil Registrar, City Population Coordinator, and City Nutrition Action Officer.

His experience outside the city included being as Asst. Professor in the College of Public Health, University of the Philippines, a Field Director of the UP/IPH-FRG Fiel Practice Program, Consultant of the Development Academy of the Philippines, Adviser to WHO, and Medical Specialist of DOH, Region IX. He was also a Rural Health Physician of Manukan, Zamboanga del Norte and a Ship Physician of William Lines.

Hon. Nielo was recipient of a Study Grant from WHO and studied at the prestigious Johns Hopkins University in the USA. He also received a Study Tour from the World Health Organization. To observe different health services delivery in several countries of the world.

Hon. Nielo also received many awards notable among them are Outstanding City Health Officer given by the Philippine Public Health Association, Outstanding Family Physician in Community Service given by the Philippine Academy of Family Physicians; Outstanding Alumnus given by the College of Medicine Alumnus given by the College of Medicine Alumni Association of SWU; Most Outstanding Physician of DCMS given by the Philippine Medical Association, Certificate of Recognition from the LGU Dapitan, and other awards given by the Rotary Club, Knights of Columbus, etc.

Hon. Nielo is also active in community organizations. He was a President of the Rotary Club of Dapitan. In the Knights of Columbus, he has served as District Deputy, Grand Knight and the first Faithful Navigator of the Fourth Degree, Justice Florentino Saguin Assembly. He was a former Regional Secretary of REACT, former Regional Chairman of the Association of Nutrition Councils. He is a member of the Alpha Phi Omega Fraternity and the Epsilon Gamma Pi Honor Society. He is presently the President of the Dapitan City Medical Society.
