SHRINE CITY BALLET PRESENTATION
By: Liermie C. Eguia

The first step of discovering self-worth occurs at an early stage of our lives. The sixteen young ballerinas, aging from 4 to 16 years old, proved it all to the many Dapitanons last July 15, 2005, 7:30 in the evening at the Dapitan City Multi-Purpose Cultural and Sports Center in their Shrine City Ballet Presentation.

Hon. Apple Marie Agolong stating her message and said “Thank you!” to all the parents for allowing their daughters to participate in the Shrine City Ballet Presentation.

My childhood memories flashed back in my thoughts as I saw the parents carrying the props and costumes of their daughters and giving them words of encouragement while their little ones were inattentive. I am pretty sure not because of nervousness or their stage fright, at that age they don’t have that yet, it was caused by so much excitement to be on stage, because at that early age performing is just like playing but the aspiration to make the parents proud is already there (I know for I have my own share of memories as well).

In the beginning, the ballet dancers showed how they prepare their bodies by relying first on support bars.

Baby Ballerinas came out and performed their very own style of ballet warm up steps as the audience especially the parents cannot hold their smiles and amazement to watch their children perform on stage.

On the first part, the three Classical Ballerinas executed the warm up steps for ballet. Ballet dancers usually do that to prepare their body and to make their bones supple. It is the part wherein they use bars as their support to balance themselves. At first, the steps were just a piece of cake, at least that’s what I thought it is, but as they performed further, their movements became difficult and crucial that gained a great “Oh!” from the audience, but for those three ballerinas, they performed it with no sweat at all!

Then the funny bone of the audience was tickled as the Baby Ballerinas came out and performed their very own style of ballet warm up steps. But all of them were impressive as every step they have made as well as their hand movements brought out great joy to everyone who was there especially to their parents. Every click of their cameras focused on their daughters and their laughter, which can be heard, from time to time explains all that.

The flexible bodies of Simba and Nalla are nothing compared to the ballet movements that this baby ballerinas executed, to the tune of the Lion king Soundtrack, “Circle of Life”. Obviously, their willingness to satisfy the audience brought out their stamina that refrain their young bodies from experiencing tardiness.

To complete the gleeful aura of that evening, these young ballerinas wore colorful grass skirts and patched it up with Hawaiian accessories.

After their adorable tutu attire, to complete the gleeful aura of that evening, these young ballerinas wore colorful grass skirts and patched it up with Hawaiian accessories. The ballerinas performed with grace and poise, emphasizing their light bodies, while the baby ballerinas performed showed off their self-motivation and lots of confidence, no wonder the little girls made it, for they have it all. But the support of the parents and the strenuous effort of Mrs. Henedina Rocamora, their instructor, were the main ingredients that made the show a very successful one.

The first scenes were a piece of cake

As Hon. Apple Marie Agolong stated in her message, “Thank you to all the parents for allowing their daughters to participate in this kind of activity. Participating different kinds of activities is a great chance for every individual to discover their self worth”.
