CITY OF DAPITAN FESTIVAL

KINABAYO FESTIVAL July 24, 2001

Kinabayo is an exotic and colorful pageant re-enacting the Spanish-Moorish wars, particularly the Battle of Covadonga. In that battle the Spanish forces under General Pelagio took their last stand against the Saracens. They were able to reverse the tide of the war with the miraculous apparition of Saint James, the Apostle. The addition of local color and innovations has made this annual festivity a popular attraction to visitors of Dapitan.

DAPITAN CITY HIGH SCHOOL CONTINGENT
WON THE PHP50,000.00 PRIZE

Dapitan City— The local government of Dapitan City headed by Mayor Rodolfo Carreon successfully hosted the KINABAYO 2001 competition during the Fiesta celebration of Senior San Tiago last July 25,2001. Among the seven contingents, Dapitan City High School got the first prize worth PHP 50,000.00 of the Kinabayo Competition, 2^nd prize worth PHP 30,000.00 was given to the contingent from San Tag Da Can (which was represented by Sto. Niño, Taguilon, Dakak, Canlucani), and the 3^rd prize worth PHP 15,000.00 was awarded to the contingent from Sulangon National High School.

The criteria for judging of the said competition were the following: Performance/Concept 40 points, Choreography 30 points, Costume and Props 30 points with a total of 100 points. The boards of judges of the Kinabayo 2001 competition were Dr. Cecilia Saguin, Mr. Noel Lopecillo, and Mr. Urbano “Bong” Montilla.

The celebration of Kinabayo 2001 in Dapitan City became more entertaining because of the presence of Binibining Pilipinas Universe Miss Merriam Quiambao, TV Host Paulo Bidiones and other celebrities from GMA who witnessed the presentation.
