CITY  PROFILE:  ECONOMY

    

              There are 969 commercial establishments in the City registered with the City Treasurer’s Office as of 1997. Out of these, 490 or 51% are situated in the urban core while 479 or 49% are  evenly distributed in the 43 rural barangays.  Stores having a capitalization exceeding P5,000.00 are mostly located in the city proper. Smaller stores which are commonly known as “sari-sari” stores buy their stocks from bigger stores in  the poblacion  while the bigger establishments buy their stocks from Dipolog City or Cebu City.

              These commercial establishments cater only to the limited demands of their customers within their respective spheres.

              There are only 46 industrial establishments in the City. Out of these, 27 or 59% are located in the poblacion, while 19 or 41% are in the rural barangays.

       The tourism industry sector is beginning to gain momentum in the city. Statistics show that visitors to the renowned Dakak Park and Beach Resort which is located in Barangay Taguilon had been steadily increasing from 12,727 in 1994 to 32,043 in 1996. Rizal Shrine visitors have also been consistently in the uptrend since 1993 up to 1998. On the other hand, The Dapitan City Resort Hotel and Pavilion, the Dapitan City Home Owners Association (DAHOA) and other tourism establishment in the city showed a considerable number of visitors inflow.
