Dapitan City is rich of historical treasures. Jose Rizal, our national hero, spent 4 years in exile in Dapitan and gives the City its identity establishing it as a unique place where Philippine History is unfolded. The Relief Map of Mindanao lay out by Rizal in front of the Saint James Church, the nipa replicas of his residence, the octagonal structure and other clinics where he treated his patients are still well preserved, the dam at the shrine, the designed irrigation network canals and water distribution system, the rock formation called “Lover’s Rock” where Rizal with Josephine Bracken watch the splendour of Dapitan sunset still exist making a collective trace of Rizal’s four-year exile in Dapitan. The upland portion of his property, the streams, the rocks and green that carpeted the earth are still there as ancient as the light of the stars. It is also where the vaunted Dakak Park and Beach Resort is situated.
